Marti Bookstein: “To Life! Songs of Love and Time”
August 9 @ 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM$35
Marti has been appearing with Cabaret for Life for the past 20 years and is one of the best known performers on the Jersey Shore theater circuit, having played leading roles in nearly every theater. In her first solo cabaret show, Marti will share songs of love and time, and will share the stage with a host of friends who are musicians and singers.
Marti was once described as the “consummate volunteer” in a note of acknowledgement. She has volunteered with Cabaret for Life for 20 years and currently serves on non-profit boards, helps lead at churches, and serves as both a director and a chair for the Garden State Council, SHRM. In addition to giving her time, energy and expertise, her favorite thing to share is her gift of song. Still a soprano, but no longer an ingénue, she challenged herself to build solo shows to share her talents and hopefully make many varied audiences happy!
A classically trained lyric soprano, Marti has performed with the San Diego Opera, Phoenix Opera and NYC’s D’Amato Opera, and she spent three years in rep with New York Gilbert & Sullivan Players. Embracing the Great American Songbook, Broadway and pop repertoires, she happily performs with local theater companies whenever possible.
She felt blessed as youthful favorite ingénue roles (Maria in West Side Story, Hodel in Fiddler on the Roof, Fiona in Brigadoon and others) gave way to fun leading lady roles (Amalia in She Loves Me, Kate in Kiss Me Kate) as well as iconic women like Mother Abbess in Sound of Music and Nettie in Carousel. And don’t forget the hearty and hardy Aunt Eller in Oklahoma!, Evil Mrs. Meers in Thoroughly Modern Millie, hilarious Queen Aggravain in Once Upon A Mattress, loving Fairy Godmother in Cinderella, and kind Mrs. Pearce in My Fair Lady – to name a few of the characters she’s enjoyed bringing to life!
Proceeds from ticket sales for this event will benefit The Frances Foundation.
